Evaluation of my Front Cover
Below shows two versions of my magazine that I saved initially, during the process of me editing the front cover to get it how I wanted. They show the progress that I made when editing, and how some of my ideas changed throughout the process.
This is very different from what I expected my cover to look like initially, however also looks better than I expected. It is very simple, however with the busy background of the picture and the banner at the top, makes it look very effective. Why did I lay it out how I did?
I based the design on a mixture of aspects of other magazines I had seen during my research, and my own design. I used my design from my research as a basis for the cover, however I changed it around while editing to suit the house style of my magazine, and so that I acheived the look I wanted rather than having something that didn't go properly with the rest of my magazine or the style I wanted to acheive. I chose the text I did because it looks feminine to go with the look of the artist, and it looks professional in order to enhance the overall look of the magazine. I didn't use much text as it would take away from the main focal point of the cover, being the picture of 'Lola Roberts'.
Positives about the front cover:
The picture is the first positive about my front cover, it shows off the artist well and the colours from the picture stand out, rather than just blending in with the rest of the cover, as the picture is the main focus of the page. The colours on my cover are a positive, as the use of neutral colours and aspects such as the barcode, or the banner at the top make it look more professional. It looks consistent aswell by not using lots of text or other pictures that clash with the background of the main picture.
Negavites (what I could have done better) about the front cover:
I beleive that it could look more professional, in order to make it look more like a genuine magazine cover. I could have perhaps included more pictures of other artists, however it was difficult for me to do this as they didn't fit with the look of the page. Although if I could have somehow incorporated other pictures, I beleive it would have added to the overall look of the front cover.
